Henry Wolf (1852-1916) 1890 signed wood engraving proof titled "Horace and Lydia" after John Reinhard Weguelin (1849-1927) on Japan paper tipped to a backing sheet. Signed by Henry Wolf at lower right below image with no other markings. The sheet size is 9 1/2" x 12" and the image size is 4 5/8" x 6 7/8". This scarce proof by the the premier wood engraver of the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century is in good condition. There are a few shallow creases and foxing around the edges of the backing sheet, but with more than sufficient room for matting and framing. This engraving was also published in Scribner's Magazine. There is a copy of this engraving in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Please examine images closely for condition and ask any questions before making a purchase.
